Clay Stories - Leith Hill Place

06julAll Day03augClay Stories - Leith Hill Place

Event Details

Local art collective 318 Ceramics will present Clay Stories, an exhibition of pottery inspired by Leith Hill Place and its history.

Leith Hill Place is intimately tied to a plethora of creative names: composer Ralph Vaughan Williams, naturalist Charles Darwin, and ceramicist Josiah Wedgwood III. 318 Ceramics, a collective of artisanal artists from Farnham in Surrey, will draw from this rich history to create brand new artworks in clay.

As a former home of the Wedgwood family, who brought pottery to the masses in the eighteenth century, the quiet domesticity of Leith Hill Place makes a deeply fitting setting for a ceramics exhibition. The ceramic artists will showcase the house in a new light, bringing back to life the spirit of its previous owners through a range of pieces scattered throughout the rooms.

The exhibition is free to visit with normal admission from Fridays to Sundays.

Normal Admission Fees:
Adult – £6.00
Child – £3.00

Additional Workshops:
Members of the public are invited to two workshops on Saturday 28th of July and Saturday 4th of August to participate in a mass artwork with 318 Ceramics. With the help of the artists, participants will be able to make and decorate their own small clay bowl in the Wedgwood style, which will become part of a large art installation in the house.

Workshops cost £5 per person and run from 10.30am-12.30pm and 2-4pm on each day. Places are limited, so please book to guarantee your slot by calling 01306 711685.
