Sussex Sunday Walkers celebrates its Centenary

As the name suggests we are an independent walking group who meet every Sunday, mainly in Sussex but occasionally in Surrey. Details of the start point, route and distance can be found on our website, sussexsundaywalkers.org.uk under “Our Walking Diary”. Well-behaved dogs are allowed at the discretion of the walk leader.

The name of the group was originally the Society of Sussex Wealdmen but was changed to Sussex Sunday Walkers in 2016.

During our centenary year we will be recreating the Society’s inaugural walk on 29th March when walkers will dress in 1920’s clothing. The event will start in Cranleigh at 9 am, walk to Shamley Green for lunch and on to Shere for afternoon tea at the White Hart. We will return to Cranleigh in a vintage bus and Martin Bamford from Bear Content will be taking photographs of the event.

We also plan to walk the South Downs Way over 8 Sundays in the Spring and Summer and hold a celebratory tea party in July. Full details can be found on the Centenary page in our website.

If you would like to try us out and need further information, please use the “Contact us” link on our website or call Gaynor Waterman on 07986 515078. We are a friendly group, and new members will be made very welcome. A taster walk is free and if you decide to join us the annual subscription is £5.
