A Tale of Two Ships – by David Edwards

Many Cranleigh youngsters will remember school trips to the TS Gerald Daniel, affectionately known as the “GD”. The ship is a converted Minesweeper that lost its use some five years ago, before being replaced by the TS Resolute. A Tale of Two Ships is the story of both these ships. The book has been completed in time for the 30-year anniversary of the Sailing Centre that was celebrated in September this last year.
The book describes some of the history of two ships used by Christian Youth Enterprises, an Outdoor Activity Centre in Chichester Harbour with roots in Cranleigh. These roots go back 30 years to the founders of the Centre, Cranleigh residents Norman and Rosslyn Doney and David Edwards, among other local people. Since there is no sea at Cranleigh, Cobnor near Bosham in Chichester Harbour is the venue and location of the latest ship, the TS Resolute.
