Cranleigh & District Lions Club News – July 2021

Shocking news!

We have some great news about our ongoing efforts to improve public access to defibrillators in Cranleigh. On the wall outside of the village hospital, many of you will have noticed a yellow cabinet that holds the first 24/7, instant access defibrillator in our village. There are a number of defibrillators already in the village, but they are located inside businesses that have limited hours of availability. This new defibrillator can be accessed at any time, with no restrictions. It’s also the very latest type, designed to be used by literally anybody, because it talks you through exactly what you need to do, so no training is needed.

We’re also ensuring that the other 13 defibrillators in our village are serviced and ready for use. Many are cared for by their owners, such as the ones in Marks & Spencer and the Leisure Centre but the Lions, in cooperation with our friends at the Parish Council, keep a regular check the units in the pubs and social centres. We have recently fitted new pads and batteries to the units in the Richard Onslow, the Three Horseshoes and the White Hart, so they’re ready to go for another two years.

In the picture alongside Adrian from Cranleigh Lions is Cllr Liz Townsend who, along with her colleagues in the Parish Council, was a huge help in getting this important equipment made available to us all.

We hope to be able to announce that two more defibs’ will be installed in the near future, and as soon as we have assurance that they’ll be going ahead, we’ll let you know.

Hopefully you’ll have noticed the green signs around the village showing where all the defibrillators are. They’re attached to lampposts and sign poles, so please have a look up as you’re going around to learn where they are, making you ready to respond should an emergency ever occur.

This is just one of the many ways that Cranleigh Lions are quietly working hard to make life better in this lovely village.
