Cranleigh & District Lions Club News – June 2021

Cranleigh Lions Classic Car Show
We regret that due to the many potential restrictions, regulations and risks involved in running a Covid compliant event, we have reluctantly decided not to hold our Classic Car Show this year. We know that many people will be disappointed by this decision but we look forward to the show returning in 2022.

Classics on the Drive
A great turnout for Classic vehicles and the public for our second Classics on the Drive event on the 16th May. Despite the dreadful weather with regular heavy downpours, classic owners did their best to show off their cars. Some were left out in the rain; others were in garages or under gazebos. A great spectacle, with over 100 cars, motorbikes and other vehicles on display. Despite the rain, the classics congregated in the Village Way car park prior to moving off along the high street at 3.45, led by a rather damp Rory the Lion on our flatbed vehicle. Fortunately, the weather gods provided a short dry interval allowing the residents and friends of Cranleigh to line the high street to watch the parade in fairly dry weather.

Our thanks to all the exhibitors who went that extra mile to ensure their vehicles could be displayed, and thanks to everyone who came out to support the event.

Cranleigh Carnival – Saturday 26 June
Our Carnival will be taking place as usual. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Our Community and Our Key Workers”. In addition to our regular participants, we are inviting all volunteers and key workers to join in the Carnival Parade. Come in fancy dress or your uniform and bring your friends and family.

We have all the usual favourites plus – a Talent Showcase giving an opportunity for local musicians, dance groups and other performers to show off their talent to the community, and the very first Brian Burt Memorial Flower Show. Brian Burt, who sadly passed away last year, had been our Carnival Chairman for many years.
