Sixty seasons on, Cranleigh Rugby Club is in fine form, on the pitch and off it. Here the club shares its news, from promotions and league wins to the beginners who turned up never having held a ball and never looked back.
Cranleigh Rugby Club is celebrating its 60th season with pride. Our Men’s 1XV have earned promotion to Surrey 3 for the first time in nearly 20 years, and our Men’s 2XV, following a closely contested play-off final, will be competing in Sussex 4 next season. Yet it is the people who make this club truly special, both on and off the field.
Many of our players had never picked up a rugby ball before joining Cranleigh Rugby Club, but quickly found their place within the team. Others arrived with no experience at all and soon became regulars. One member, who previously enjoyed horse riding and football, was persuaded to give rugby a try. He now not only plays for the club but also proudly sponsors it. Another joined us from overseas, unsure whether they would fit in, only to discover that Cranleigh Rugby Club instantly felt like home. Whatever your background or experience, there’s a place for you here. Senior Men’s training takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30pm to 9:00pm, with matches on Saturdays.

The Wild Cranes
Since launching in September 2021, the Wild Cranes Women’s Team has gone from strength to strength. In partnership with Guildfordians, we competed in, and won, the NC3 league in only our second season. When the team first started, our head coach encouraged our current captain to give contact rugby a go, despite her never having played before. She thought she’d “get eaten alive,” but tackling has since become her favourite part of the game. What makes the Wild Cranes truly special isn’t just the rugby, it’s the lifelong friendships formed between women of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. Training takes place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:30pm to 9:00pm, with matches on Sundays.
Minis, Youth and Wild Cranettes
Our thriving Mini and Youth section welcomes children of all ages to train and play on Sunday mornings from 10:00am. We offer age-appropriate coaching for children from Micros (ages 3 to 5) through to Youth rugby (ages 6 to 17), helping them develop skills, confidence and friendships while embracing the RFU’s five core values: teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship.
Another exciting addition to the club is our growing girls’ section, the Wild Cranettes. The team is coached by players from our Women’s Team, all of whom were beginners themselves not so long ago. Training takes place on Sunday mornings from 10:00am, with additional Tuesday evening sessions at 7:00pm throughout the summer.

Looking for fun, fast-paced, heart-racing fitness without the contact? Touch rugby could be just what you’re looking for. Sessions run every Thursday from March to November, from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. Alongside a busy summer fixture list, there’s also a fantastic social calendar to enjoy.
