Memory Lane are a group of volunteers who share their experience with full time carers and their partners who are experiencing dementia or loss of memory. Their regular meetings are interspersed each month with Walk in the Park to enjoy a stroll, chat and even a sing song led by profession singers with Anne Berisford accompanying on one of her many instruments.
Knowle Park, down Knowle Lane, in Cranleigh, literally came alive last month with the initial introduction of the Indian Geese fledglings parading across the lake. Shortly after, followed the long-awaited appearance of two cygnets by the resident swans. The Coots were taking a little longer but should be off their nests in July to join the others.

Walk in the Park takes place every second Monday each month and anyone who may be feeling lonely or needs cheering up is welcomed warmly by the Memory Lane Team. It really is a stroll, which sometimes includes those in wheelchairs who are also able to see the information boards that help to explain what to look out for and future developments planned by the amazing park Team of volunteers. Back at the Kiosks, feeling exhilarated and comforted from the walk, is the opportune time to group together for further chatting or even joining in the singing between sips of coffee or licks of ice-cream!

The hour or so really brings so much joy to everyone, no matter what the weather. It has been known for folks on one wet day to shelter under trees to sing “Just Singing in the Rain”.
Walk in the Park is arranged for anyone who may be feeling lonely or nostalgic, and would be welcome to join in at 10.30am on Monday 14th July or of course, any second Monday each month. (See our advert on page 22).
Memory Lane meetings in the Cranleigh Arts Centre in July will be as usual from 2.15pm on the first and third Monday. With August being holiday time, the meeting will just be on the 18th in August, having followed Walk in the Park on Monday 11th the previous week.
