One in Five Appeal – The Royal Surrey County Hospital

I have been volunteering for the fundraising department of The Royal Surrey County Hospital for a few years now, and it has been lovely to feel part of this very happy and worthwhile service.

At the time of my joining, they had actually just launched an appeal to raise money for a 3D scanner for detecting women’s cancers. At first, the target we were given seemed daunting. However, it was quickly reached through the dedication of the fundraisers and the fantastic support of the general public who both donated generously and purchased many slices of cake! Excitingly, the scanner is now officially open and ready for business.

Following the success of this fundraiser, we are now we are in the throes of another appeal for ‘One in Five’ – an Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit which will help to transform the support and advice we are able to give parents who are coping with the loss of their babies.

The unit will provide its own scan room, manned by consultant gynaecologists and obstetricians who specialise in early pregnancy – plus the addition of two counselling rooms, a clinical examination room, recovery area, separate waiting area, and reception.

I am so delighted to be part of the team that is working so hard towards raising enough money for this Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit. Being a volunteer is so rewarding, no matter how many hours you are able to give in a week or a month – not because we are looking out for ourselves should we ever need this service, but because we want to help those that already do.

If you wish to become a volunteer, or indeed if you wish to make a donation, please contact Sally at the fundraising office – she will be more than happy to assist you.
