Robert Alexander Robertson didn’t know what he was starting when he travelled from Glasgow to Bramley over 100 years ago.

R.A. Robertson & Sons has been a familiar fixture on Bramley High Street since 1926. Founded by Robert Alexander Robertson, the business was originally set up to provide a service for charging accumulators, but by the 1960s, the business had expanded to both groceries and electrical appliances. By the time his son Leonard Robertson succeeded the family business, in 1965, a much bigger market for electrical products had grown, so new premises were built to keep up with demand. These premises are the same that stand there to this day.
Subsequently, Leonard passed the business down to his three sons, Graham, Gerald, and John. He ran the business with his sons, John, who specialised in Electrical Contracting, Gerald, who managed the shop and his youngest son Graham, who focused on repair and installation of domestic appliances. Leonard Robertson retired in 1990 and the shop was passed onto the 3 brothers, with Gerald leaving the business in 2002 when he immigrated to Australia. John and Graham continued to run the business together for another 19 years.
In October 2021 the family business was passed over to George Robertson. George became the fourth generation of Robertsons to run the business, taking over from his uncle John, who was retiring and his father Graham who continued to work part-time.
Not many villages can boast an electrical shop in the High Street these days! Whether it’s a washing machine or something as simple as a light bulb, the knowledgeable staff in the shop are always happy to help. Robertson’s of Bramley continue to offer a repair and installation service, for all domestic appliance machines, specialising in Miele, Liebherr, Bosch and Neff. Because we’re a member of the Euronicos buying group, we’re able to offer competitive prices, along with over 100 years of excellent service to the local community and surrounding areas.
George Robertson, Owner of R.A. Robertson & Sons said: “I’m so proud to have taken over the business that my great grandfather first started up over 100 years ago. Everything I know about our business, I have learnt from my dad and my uncle. Our family business prides itself on having solid knowledge and expertise, providing a quality personalised service to our customers and I’m excited to be continuing my family’s legacy.”
