Poetry: The Caring Robot

The Caring Robot

I am a little frail these days
I need more help in many ways
I have a carer who lives in
he’s short and square, his arms are thin

he doesn’t seem to mind I’m old
and though his hands are rather cold
his face is fixed into a grin,
at six o’clock he brings my gin

he’s always on an even keel,
he cooks me every single meal
I’m not sure if he ever sleeps,
amazing with the hours he keeps

he sweeps and cleans and makes my bed,
keeps crossword answers in his head
he whirrs and buzzes through his tasks,
‘All right my love?’ he often asks

his battery will run for hours,
occasionally he brings me flowers
serenades me with the violin,
my lovely carer made of tin
