Ewhurst Horticultural Society Summer Show 2022

Ewhurst Horticultural Society’s Summer Show was held on Saturday 9th July in the Village Hall. Everyone was very pleased to be back at the Show after a three year absence due to Covid.

The centrepiece of the Summer Show is always the floral display and this year it was exceptional with a fantastic colourful display of flowers to delight the visitors. The judges commented on the high quality of exhibits. Vegetable, fruit and home fare classes were also very well supported with plenty of entries.

Ewhurst resident, Richard Munford, was again successful winning five trophies: President’s Cup for most points in the entire schedule, RHS Banksian Medal for most prize money in Horticulture classes, Fenwick Cup for most points in Flower & Pot Plant classes, Silver Bowl for best exhibit of roses, and the Harrison Cup for best exhibit of pot plant.

It was good to see some out of village winners too: Jeff Jones from Peaslake won the Vigers cup for most points in vegetables and fruit, and also the Scott Brothers Trophy for best vegetable exhibit, and Dennis Collins from Southwater won the Challenge Cup for best exhibit of sweet peas.

Belinda Burt again did well with her roses winning the Weir Cup for best rose bloom. Our President, Richard Tabor, won the Medland Trophy for best floral display with a stunning display of lilies and other blooms from his garden. The Silver Cup for most points in Floral Art was won by Jane Bishop, and the New Blair Bowl for best table decoration was won by Dawn Gaines. The Challenge Bowl for most points in Home Fare was retained for a third consecutive time by Marian Heathcote.

The children’s classes had some lovely entries from Rainbows End Pre-school which was encouraging and we would like to see more children participating in the older children’s classes at our next show.

As usual at the end of the show, there was the traditional auction of vegetables, fruit, flowers and home fare, donated by generous entrants, which were eagerly snapped up at bargain prices by visitors to the show.

Many thanks go to all who supported and helped to make the Summer Show another successful event in the Society’s calendar. Anyone interested in joining can contact the Membership Secretary on 01483 273580 or email or visit our website www.ewhursthortsoc.org.uk. Our next show will be the Autumn Show on Saturday 10th September 2019 in the Village Hall and we welcome entries. See website for schedule.
