Half Term Fun with Pippi Longstocking

If you are looking for the perfect half-term treat for your children or grandchildren Cranleigh Arts has just the answer on Friday 27th October at 2pm.

Pippi Longstocking, beloved by generations of young readers throughout the world, is brought to life in this playful and quirky solo performance by local actor and storyteller Sofie Miller. This is a show with plenty of audience participation, best suited to 4-9+ year and families.

Sofie Miller as Pippi Longstocking

Nine-year-old Pippi is strong, brave and fearless. When she comes to live in her new home with her monkey and horse, but with no parents and no rules, she brings mischief, chaos and confusion to the folk of this ordinary and traditional town. Pippi takes charge of her own crazy adventures, with her two new friends, Tommy and Annika. What else would you expect from the daughter of a swashbuckling pirate captain?

After the show families are invited to take part in a craft activity whilst Sofie chats to them, admires what they have made and pose for photographs.

Sofie first performed Meet Astrid Lindgren’s Pippi Longstocking at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2021. It came about as the result of an unfortunate accident. Three days before her mother Danyah, an award-winning storyteller herself, was due to take the production to the fringe, she was bowled over by Sofie’s border collie and suffered a broken shoulder.

Whilst sitting in the hospital, as Danyah awaited treatment, Sofie, well-aware that there was no way her mother would be fit to appear, offered to take over the role. With just one day to rehearse Sofie threw everything she needed into her car and set off for the long journey north. From that moment she has made the role her own and has attracted stunning reviews for her performance. No surprise really, because she is an avid reader and as a child made-believe she was Pippi! Although she loves performing, Sofie’s long term ambition is to become a writer.

Now based back in Cranleigh Sofie is continuing to live her childhood dream of being the fearless Pippi Longstocking!
