A local Cranleigh resident, Don Pearson, wrote an article in our September issue about the number of homeless people he’d seen on the streets of London. He subsequently posted a copy of that issue of Cranleigh Magazine to both HRH, Prince Charles and to the PM, Boris Johnson.
As a result of this, Mr Pearson received a reply from both Buckingham Palace and 10, Downing Street, thanking him for his concerns and explaining that the government policies are already in place to help change this situation long-term, along with future investment and help.

‘It should be brought to the attention of everyone that during April 2018 the Homeless Reduction Act was introduced, in August 2018 Rough Sleeping Strategy with £100m package and in October 2018 the Duty to Refer came into effect. We all have a duty to refer any Homeless or Rough Sleeper we find, or know about, to our relevant Local Housing Authorities listed.’

Why not cut and save the telephone numbers and keep in a safe section of purse or wallet. It might be a good idea should you find a rough sleeper. The sleeper needn’t be approached, just inform the Local Authorities where they are located.
