  • Live Music, Friday 2nd October, 7.30pm. The Greatest Love Songs.
  • Fashion Show, Saturday 3rd October, 7pm. A Charity Fashion Show.
  • Classical, Tuesday 6th October, 1pm. The Mordkovitch Trio, with Debussy’s Piano Trio, Mel Bonis’ Soir and Frank Bridge’s Phantasie Trio in C minor. No entry charge, donations welcome.

  • Community Theatre, Friday 9th and Saturday 10th October, 7.30pm. CATS present Soapsuds.
  • Creative Writing, a 5 week course starting Saturday 10th October, 10.30am, with award-winning author and creative writing tutor Jody Cooksley.
  • Live Music, Friday 16th October, 7.30pm. Anouska Assisi. Inspired by Ed Sheeran and KT Tunstall, Anouska performs as a multi-instrumentalist using a loop station, building her tracks live on stage with acoustic guitar, vocals and percussion.

  • Live Music, Friday 30th October, 7.30pm. Sounds of the 60s with The Zoots: The Beatles, The Stones, The Kinks and more.
  • Quiz, Saturday 31st October, 7pm. A quiz with fish and chips.

October half term at Cranleigh Arts

Six activities for children across the half term weeks, all at Cranleigh Arts:

  • Wild About Britain, Tuesday 20th October.
  • The Ultimate Bubble Show, Wednesday 21st October.
  • Kev F Sutherland’s Comic Art Masterclass, Thursday 22nd October.
  • Community Drum Circle, Saturday 24th October. A fun, noisy, family friendly event that is open to everyone. No musical experience is necessary, and all drums and percussion are provided.
  • Pottery Painting Café, Tuesday 27th October.
  • Gamers Lounge, Wednesday 28th October.

Cranleigh History Society

Thursday 8th October, 8pm, in the Band Room. Tony Painter will speak on ‘Hillside chalk figures’. The society meets on the second Thursday of each month.

Cranleigh Record Fair

Sunday 11th October, 10am to 2pm, at a new location: the Bandroom, Village Way, Cranleigh GU6 8AF. Free entry, with a car park opposite.

“Now vinyl is back where it belongs, and it will be available in large amounts at the Bandroom soon! Whether you’re a lifelong collector, a curious newcomer, a teenager, or a fully paid-up grown-up, you’re very welcome,” says Gregg Dale.

Bosom Friends Wellness Day

Friday 16th October, 10am to 2pm, at Cranleigh Village Hall. Bosom Friends, the local support group for women who have experienced cancer, celebrates its first anniversary with a Wellness Day. There will be a cake sale raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support, alongside local community groups and businesses supporting health and wellbeing. The group meets every Friday, 9:00 to 10:30am, at Alpher Coffee, Cranleigh Village Hall.

Shamley Green History Society

Wednesday 21st October, 2.30pm, at the Jubilee Room, Christ Church, Shamley Green. Please note this is a new temporary meeting place while the Arbuthnot Hall is being refurbished, with parking available on the opposite side of the road.

“Newlands Corner”, an illustrated talk about the local beauty spot by Trevor Brook. Non-members are welcome. The entry fee of £4 includes tea and biscuits. For more details contact Carol on 01483 503667.

Japanese Festival of Culture at Rikkyo School

Sunday 25th October, from 10.00am. The annual Japanese Festival of Culture Open Day at Rikkyo School in England, Guildford Road, Rudgwick RH12 3BE. Traditional dance, Kendo, calligraphy, the ceremonial art of tea preparation, origami, a bazaar and traditional Japanese food served from 11.00am to 2.00pm.

Cranleigh Film Club: Sentimental Value

Thursday 29th October. Doors open at 7pm with the film screened from 7.30pm, in the Bandroom in Cranleigh, GU6 8AF. Screenings are for members and their guests, with guests paying £5 on entry, and membership is open to anyone aged 16 or over.

Sisters Nora and Agnes reunite with their estranged father, the charismatic Gustav, a once-renowned director who offers stage actress Nora a role in what he hopes will be his comeback film. When Nora turns it down, she soon discovers he has given her part to an eager young Hollywood star. Suddenly, the two sisters must navigate their complicated relationship with their father and deal with an American star dropped right into the middle of their complex family dynamics.

Memory Lane

  • Meetings at Cranleigh Arts Centre, 2pm on Monday 5th and Monday 19th October.
  • A walk around Knowle Park, Monday 12th October from 10.30am. Anyone is welcome to join.

Weekly walking group

Tuesdays at 11am, a 60 to 90 minute walk, meeting at Cranleigh Leisure Centre. Walking’s a great way to get fit, explore what’s on your doorstep and make new friends.

Cranleigh Village Care needs volunteers

Cranleigh Village Care volunteers provide transport to medical appointments for Cranleigh residents who need support with travel arrangements. Clients are asked to make a donation to cover the drivers’ fuel and administration costs. The number for clients to ring is 07908 976394, and the line is currently open from 10am to 12 noon on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Since the pandemic some of the volunteers have retired, and new people are needed to keep the full service running. The roles are Driver, or Duty Officer, taking phone calls and arranging the transport, and as much or as little time as you can offer is welcome. Cranleigh Food Bank

In need of food and support? Cranleigh Food Bank is open every Friday from 10:00 to 11:30 at its Drop-In Café, Cranleigh Baptist Church, St James’s Place entrance. Contact [email protected].
