Memory Lane offers friendship, support and gentle activity for people living with dementia and those who care for them. Last month brought a joyful new experience, and there is plenty more to look forward to in August.
Memory Lane enjoyed something quite different last month as the guest carers and their partners experiencing dementia were encouraged by the ML Team to make music together. One of the guests from Indonesia, Kundi Scully, introduced her nationally played angklung. Having trained the team for some weeks prior to the meeting, she was able to assist everyone to play the bamboo angklung chimes together. Having previously formed a Dementia Choir, ML are planning to repeat the joyous harmony with the choir joining them at a meeting in the future.
What’s on this August
At Cranleigh Arts Centre on 3rd August, the ML Singing team will lead a session of well-known songs in the main auditorium, followed by stimulating mental and physical exercises for those experiencing dementia.
ML will start their monthly “Walk in the Park” from 10.30am on Monday 10th August, when guests will stroll around Knowle Park, finishing with a sing-along over coffee and cake together.
Also at Cranleigh Arts Centre, at 3pm on 17th August, ML welcomes the return visit of Dr Jill Rasmussen, who, as a national authority for Alzheimer’s, is able to guide carers to the latest news and help available to them and their partner. This is open to anyone who might wish to know about the disease and its management.
