Cranleigh Amateur Swimming Club – Back to Training

Summer‘s over, schools are back and our swimmers are already going to regular training sessions. Coaches, lead by David Whorlow went straight into training for the Team Gala ‘just an easy 5k or so’ for the seniors!

The Team Gala was a first of its kind for CASC in recent years and took place Saturday 8 September at Cranleigh Leisure Centre against Farnham SC and Wey Valley SC. Different to a normal gala, swimmers swam for points for their club not for individual medals including a number of relay events. It was great fun – the roars of support and cheers could be heard from Shamley Green! All swimmers swam amazingly well, spurred on by the shouts from their friends, family and coaches. Farnham SC took home the overall Team Trophy and the Boys Team Trophy, while CASC girls brought home the Girls Team Trophy.

This column usually focuses on the swimmers, training and achievements. It’s safe to say that without the fabulous dedication and training by the coaching team, they would not continue to improve. Highlighting our lead coaches, Carrie has a family and a full time job she fits in as well as bringing a smile, support and a focus on detail in coaching her swimmers. Head Coach David has a family and finds time to create spreadsheets, drive through initiatives, learn by heart everyone’s PB’s as well as delivering world class sessions. And Coach Pete . . screaming and coaching at the gala as well as delivering with a smile his usual coaching sessions. Thank you all for taking our swimmers to the next level.

We are rather proud of CASC’s Annabel Morton. She is not only a great swimmer but a keen and talented triathlete. Yes, she finds time to study, swim, run and cycle! Over the summer she raced as for the British Team in Latvia at the Riga Junior European Cup and came 4th. She is leading the British Youth and Junior Super Series for Junior Girls! Well done Annabel! Many of our swimmers use the advantage of their strong ability in the water to take part in triathlons, aquathlons and open water events.
