Cranleigh Amateur Swimming Club

On a Sunday evening when most people are starting to think about roast meals and the dulcet tones of David Attenborough on Planet Earth 2 on TV, the pool at Cranleigh Leisure Centre is starting to fill up. Children ranging from 8 to 18 wearing orange swim hats dive into the pool to start their training session. This is one of 5 sessions a week for some swimmers and even the youngest swimmers train at least 3 times a week.

The swimming club was lucky enough to engage the services of Head Coach David Whorlow in February last year and the successes he has driven are outstanding. In 2017, a huge number of Club Records were broken! Also a big well done to Annabel, Callum, Ellen, Jack, Sophie and Yasmin who took 19 of the records. In addition, a record number of 21 swimmers have qualified for the Surrey County Championships, over 49 events! The championships took place over January and February this year and swimmers had the opportunity to compete in their event at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford!

David is driving the swimmers to achieve their goals around times, with his persistent attention perfecting their stroke and challenging them constantly. He is also encouraging a strong team spirit and promoting a proudness and dedication to be part of the club. The swimmers form friendships away from ipads, electronic devises and social media and support each other in training and competing.
