Ellens Green & Rudgwick Gardening Association

What can a gardening club do when people can’t meet up? Answer: Organise an online show!

That’s exactly what the Ellens Green and Rudgwick Gardening Association have done.

Its chairman, Richard Haigh, says: “We had to cancel our usual spring show but one of our members had the idea of holding a virtual show online. We thought ‘why not?’ so our web team got it going and we had a fantastic response from the community. Of course it doesn’t replace the real thing, but it does give us an impression of what could have been – a brilliant display and a great compliment to everyone who took part.”

How on earth do you adjudicate such an exhibition? The hardest part, Richard says, was remembering that it was a not a photographic exhibition. “I had to review the entries on content rather than their photographic merit. I did not insist on vases, but I did follow the rule on how many stems of flowers should be present in each class.”

The exhibition can be viewed online at: www.gardenreg.org

“It brings a little colour to the community when we all need it.”
